Q. Your website indicates that we should provide “nature of business” information, preferably NAICS codes. Can I provide additional specific information about the goods/services we provide?
- Absolutely! We encourage you to provide as much information about the good/services your company offers so we can include those details in our internal searchable supplier registry tool.
Q. I need to update the company information I have previously provided. What’s the best way to ensure that our current information shows in your registry?
- Please submit your company’s updated information to supplier_diversity@symantec.com and indicate whether the information is in addition to your previous submission or should replace the existing data.
Q. I’ve previously submitted my company’s information to the Supplier Diversity e-mail, but so far, I haven’t been contacted about any business opportunities. Is there someone I can talk to directly?
- Once your information is submitted to the Supplier Diversity Registry, your information is available to our sourcing specialists. But until there’s a business need to conduct a sourcing event for a given good or service and your company is selected for participation, it’s unlikely you will be contacted.
Our Supplier Diversity team works closely with Procurement to ensure they have the information needed to maximize inclusion of small and/or diverse suppliers in the sourcing process. We encourage you to make sure that our Supplier Diversity team has up-to-date information about your company for reference during that process.
Certification
Q. What is diverse supplier certification?
- This usually refers to a third-party validation of your small and/or diverse supplier status. For the categories that Symantec recognizes, as well as links to some of the related agencies that can provide more information about their certification process, click here .
Q.How do I become certified?
- The process to become certified varies by certifying agency. We encourage you to contact the appropriate agency directly for more information.
Q. Your webpage refers to submitting “certification documentation.” Where do I find the forms to fill out?
- This refers to the documentation provided by the third-party certifying agency used as proof that they have verified your company’s small and/or diverse supplier status.
Q. My company has recently obtained certification of its small and/or diverse status. How should I make sure that this information is reflected in Symantec’s Diverse Supplier Registry?
- As with any updates to your company’s information, please send the updated information to supplier_diversity@symantec.com.
Q. I’m an existing Symantec supplier and provided a “Supplier Diversity Information” form as part of the information requested during our initial set-up. Does this mean my company is certified?
- Although we captured your small and/or diverse supplier status in our system during set-up, this does not mean that your status has been certified by a third-party agency. For the categories that Symantec recognizes, as well as links to some of the related agencies that can provide more information about their certification process, click here.
Q. Why should my company become third-party certified?
- The benefits vary with the type of certification and the agency providing it. Depending on the agency, benefits can include: additional marketing resources to increase visibility (such as “matchmaking” events and inclusion in certified supplier listings that are frequented by both public and private sector organizations searching for small and/or diverse suppliers), as well as online tools, training and other educational resources to help grow your business. More information on the specific benefits of certification can be found on the certifying agency websites.
In general, supplier diversity programs are moving away from accepting “self-certification” (a self-declaration of diverse supplier status), as sufficient proof to qualify companies for inclusion in their programs.
Symantec is beginning its transition to recognizing only third-party certified suppliers with its program. To ensure that your small and/or diverse supplier status is retained, we encourage you to explore your certification options.
