Description
The Symantec Enterprise Security Manager (Symantec ESM) Console Program Update is an update that upgrades your Symantec ESM Console to version 6.0.1.
Enhancements
This new version includes the following new features:
- The Symantec ESM 6.0.1 console integrates the new content licensing system that is implemented in Symantec ESM 6.1.
- The 6.0.1 console replaces the 5.5 and 6.0 consoles, and can communicate with both Symantec ESM 5.5 and 6.0 managers. Note: Symantec ESM 6.1 uses the 6.0 manager components.
- Parentheses, curly braces, and other characters with single-byte diacritics are allowed in all name lists.
- You can remove unused operating system policy nodes and templates from the Symantec ESM tree.
- You can edit existing policy run schedules.
- When selecting multiple messages to be suppressed, you can set and edit expiration dates and type information in the comment text boxes.
- The template editor shows the template name, version and file date for the template that you are editing.
- You can delete Symantec ESM default domains if they contain no agents.
- You can copy a template to the same manager using a different name.
- The console has updated icons in the toolbar.

Content Licensing
The Symantec ESM 6.0.1 Console includes new content licensing features:
- After December 2004, new content downloads will no longer be posted to the Symantec Security Response web site. Content downloads will be available through the following:
- Symantec LiveUpdate
- Symantec FileConnect web site
- Symantec Platinum Support web site
- Symantec ESM point release CDs (to users with content licensing)
- Content advisories, release notes, and documentation will still be posted on the Symantec Security Response web site. However, after December 2004, executables and other binaries will be removed from the Security Response web site.
- You must deploy at least one Symantec ESM 6.0.1 console in your enterprise to use content licensing.
- Your Symantec ESM 5.5 and 6.0 consoles are both being upgraded to 6.0.1 via LiveUpdate with this program update.
